LCNG Turnkey Solutions

An LCNG Station is designed to receive Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), store it and convert it into Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) through controlled vaporization and compression processes. The system enables the distribution of natural gas in both liquid (LNG) and compressed (CNG) forms, supporting various applications such as vehicle refueling and industrial gas supply.

The system integrates cryogenic handling, vaporization, pressure regulation, and gas distribution—ensuring continuous, safe, and efficient RLNG supply to downstream users such as industrial plants, power generation units, or city gas distribution networks.

Components of LCNG Turnkey System

1. Unloading Pump

The unloading pump is responsible for transferring LNG from the LNG tanker to the cryogenic storage tank.

  • It operates at low temperatures (around -160°C) to maintain the liquid state of the gas.
  • Typically, a submerged centrifugal cryogenic pump is used to ensure smooth and safe transfer.
  • Safety interlocks and emergency shutdown systems are integrated to prevent overpressure or spillage during unloading.

2. Storage Tank

 

The LNG storage tank serves as a cryogenic vessel that holds LNG at very low temperatures at the MAWP of 12 bar.

  • The LNG storage tank acts as the primary reservoir for holding LNG before regasification.
  • It is a double-walled, vacuum-insulated cryogenic vessel, designed for low-temperature storage and minimal boil-off losses.
  • The inner vessel (made of stainless steel) contains the LNG, while the outer carbon steel jacket provides structural support and vacuum insulation.
  • Vacuum + Perlite insulation utilizes expanded perlite powder filled in the annular space of a cryogenic vessel under high vacuum, effectively minimizing heat transfer through conduction and convection
  • Vacuum + Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) employs multiple layers of reflective foils or films separated by spacers within a high-vacuum environment to primarily suppress radiative heat transfer, delivering exceptional thermal performance

Key features include:

  • Level, pressure, and temperature transmitters for continuous monitoring.
  • Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs) and Thermal Relief Valves (TRVs) for overpressure protection
  • Boil-off gas lines connected to a vent or vapor recovery system

All our tanks are designed in accordance with ASME Section VIII and SMPV (U) / PESO/ PED regulations.

3. High Pressure Pump

The high-pressure LNG pump boosts the pressure of LNG from storage conditions up to 200–250 bar, depending on downstream requirements.

  • The pump must be cryogenically rated and capable of continuous operation.
  • It feeds LNG to the high-pressure vaporizer, where phase change occurs.
  • Material of Construction: aluminum alloy, suitable for cryogenic and atmospheric exposure.

4. High Pressure Vaporizer

The high-pressure vaporizer converts high-pressure LNG into high-pressure CNG by adding heat from atmosphere.

  • It utilizes ambient air temperature as the heat source.
  • The vaporizer ensures complete vaporization without carryover of liquid droplets.
  • Materials used withstand both cryogenic and high-pressure conditions.
  • The outlet gas temperature and pressure are closely monitored to meet safety and operational standards.

5. Priority Panel

The priority panel manages and distributes high-pressure CNG to different end-use points based on demand and storage priority.

It typically routes the gas to:

5a. Filling Post

  • Used for direct vehicle refueling with CNG.
  • Equipped with flow meters, nozzles, and safety breakaway couplings.
  • Follows an automated sequence to ensure consistent fueling rates.

5b. Stationary Cascade

  • Acts as a buffer storage for CNG at multiple pressure levels (high, medium, low).
  • Helps with optimized refueling operations even during peak demand.
  • Equalizes pressure automatically using solenoid or pneumatic valves.

5c. Mobile Cascade

  • Consists of cylinders mounted on trailers or skids for transportation of CNG to remote areas.
  • Safety features include burst discs, pressure relief devices, and isolation valves.

Automation and Control

  • The LCNG station operates under a PLC-based automation system that monitors and controls all critical parameters—tank levels, pressures, temperatures, and flow rates.
  • The control system is integrated with SCADA & HMI for remote supervision, alarm management, and data logging.
  • Emergency shutdown (ESD) provisions are installed at key points, ensuring safe and immediate isolation in abnormal conditions.
  • The automation system minimizes manual intervention, enhancing operational reliability and safety.

Automation and Control

  • The entire installation complies with SMPV, PESO, PED and ASME codes, ensuring safe handling of cryogenic fluids and high-pressure gases.
  • Gas leak detectors (LEL sensors), flame detectors, and temperature alarms are positioned at strategic points.
  • Firefighting systems including hydrants, foam monitors, and portable extinguishers are installed in accordance with NFPA guidelines.
  • Adequate venting systems and earthing arrangements, are provided to prevent overpressure or static discharge.

An LCNG station integrates cryogenic handling, high-pressure gas processing, and automated control systems to safely manage the conversion and distribution of natural gas in both liquid and compressed forms. The combination of components — from the unloading pump to the dispensers — ensures efficient, safe, and environmentally sustainable fueling infrastructure for natural gas-based mobility and energy supply.

  • Gas from this network can feed industrial furnaces, boilers, power generators, or city gas grids, depending on application.

Oxygen Compatible Cleaning

Stainless steel inner tank, internal pipes, external pipes, and fittings are cleaned through a series of processes like pickling, passivation and degreasing followed by stringent quality checks with a ultraviolet (UV) lamp, which ensures superior clean environment for Oxygen storage.

Testing

Tanks undergo through a series of Non-Destructive Examinations (NDE) including helium leak test to ensure robustness, long vacuum retention, leak proof and maintenance free life.

Vacuum Guarantee

Stringent helium leak test, followed by Vacuuming with latest good quality vacuum pumps provides a long vacuum retention period.
